Best Web Design Companies in Mumbai: How to Build Your Own Shortlist
There is no honest universal ranking of the best web design companies in Mumbai, because “best” depends entirely on your budget, sector and how much you can manage yourself. Most “top 10” lists you will find are either paid placements, affiliate directories, or an agency’s own list with itself at number one. None of them know anything about your project.
So this page gives you the thing a list cannot: a scoring framework you can apply to any candidate, the market segments to search within, where to actually find credible candidates, and how to verify what they claim. Applied properly it will take you an afternoon and produce a shortlist that is genuinely right for you rather than right for whoever paid for placement.
Disclosure: we are Amezing Tech, a digital marketing and web design company based in Satara serving clients across Maharashtra including Mumbai. We publish our prices, so you can score us on exactly the same criteria as everyone else.
Key takeaways
- Treat every “top 10 agencies” list as advertising unless it discloses its methodology and its commercial relationships.
- Score candidates on transparency, ownership terms, verifiable work, and post-launch commitment — not on how impressive the homepage animation is.
- Match the tier to the need. A ₹5,00,000 agency and a ₹30,000 agency are both correct answers to different questions.
- Three quotes against one written brief is the only way to compare fairly.
- Fifteen minutes of verification eliminates most weak candidates before you ever get on a call.

Why “top 10” lists are usually worthless
Search for the best web design companies in Mumbai and you will get dozens of ranked lists. Almost all of them fall into one of these categories, and none of the categories is useful to you:
| List type | How it is really ordered | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Paid directory listing | By what each agency pays for placement | Who has a marketing budget |
| Affiliate or lead-gen list | By commission per lead passed on | Nothing about quality |
| An agency’s own blog post | Itself first, then non-competing or defunct firms | That they understand content marketing |
| Aggregated scrape | Automatically, from other lists | Which agencies appear on other lists |
| Review-platform ranking | Verified client reviews, sometimes weighted by spend on the platform | Genuinely useful — this is the one category worth reading |
| Award or “excellence” badge | Frequently by application fee | Usually that a fee was paid |
A list is worth reading only if it states its methodology and discloses whether money changed hands. If neither appears, assume both.
Why we have not written a ranked list of named Mumbai agencies. We would have to rank our own competitors, which we cannot do impartially, and we have no visibility into their contracts, their staffing, their delivery record or how they treat a client in month eight. Any ranking we published would be either self-serving or invented — and inventing it is exactly the behaviour this page is warning you about. A framework you apply yourself is more useful and considerably more honest.
The four tiers of the Mumbai market
Mumbai has hundreds of web design providers, and they sort into four fairly distinct tiers. Searching in the wrong tier wastes everyone’s time.
Tier 1 — Large full-service agencies
₹3,00,000 – ₹25,00,000+. Multi-stakeholder projects, brand work, enterprise integrations, dedicated account teams. Right for large organisations with procurement processes. Wrong for a five-page site — you will pay for structure you never touch.
Tier 2 — Mid-sized agencies
₹80,000 – ₹3,00,000. Established teams of 15–60, decent process, capable of complex builds. The right tier for a funded startup or a mid-sized company with real ongoing marketing needs.
Tier 3 — Small specialist agencies
₹18,000 – ₹1,50,000. Teams of 3–15, often with senior people still doing the work, frequently with published prices. Best value for most SMEs and local businesses. This is our own tier and we will not pretend otherwise.
Tier 4 — Freelancers and studios of one or two
₹8,000 – ₹90,000. Cheapest, most direct, highest variance. Excellent for contained scope with an engaged client. Risky for business-critical sites with no cover. Compared properly on the agency versus freelancer page.
Decide your tier before you shortlist. A Tier 1 agency will politely decline a ₹40,000 project, and a Tier 4 freelancer should decline a ₹6,00,000 multi-integration build — the mismatches that cause problems are the ones where neither party declines.
The scoring framework
Score each candidate out of 30. Anything below 20 should not make your shortlist; anything at 26 or above is a strong candidate regardless of how large the firm is.
| Criterion | 0 points | 1 point | 2 points | 3 points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price transparency | No indication at all, ever | Range only after a call | Range given on request, promptly | Prices published on the site |
| Written scope | Verbal only | Brief email quote | Written scope with a page count | Written scope naming every page, integration, revision round and exclusion |
| Ownership terms | They hold domain and hosting | Hosting resold, domain yours | Both yours, credentials at launch | Both yours, credentials at launch, full backup and documented handover |
| Verifiable portfolio | Screenshots only | A few live URLs | Many live URLs, several in your sector | Live URLs plus a client you can actually speak to |
| Verifiable reviews | On-site testimonials only | A handful on Google | Steady genuine reviews with names and dates | Verified reviews on an independent platform too |
| Their own site’s health | Slow, broken, or fabricated ratings in the code | Works but slow on mobile | Fast and clean | Fast, clean, well-structured, honest schema |
| Post-launch commitment | Nothing stated | Vague goodwill | Defined support period | Defined support period plus a priced maintenance plan |
| Communication clarity | Jargon, evasion | Answers eventually | Clear answers, named contact | Clear answers, named contact, tells you what not to buy |
| Process evidence | None described | Mentions “design then develop” | Staging link and revision structure | Staging link, QA on real devices, redirect plan if migrating |
| Sector fit | No relevant work | Adjacent work | Direct experience in your sector | Direct experience plus understanding of your sector’s specific constraints |
Note what is absent from that table: how beautiful their homepage is, how many awards they list, and how many years they claim. Aesthetics vary by taste, awards are often bought, and longevity without a maintained portfolio proves very little.
Score us on all ten
We publish prices, name every page in the scope before you pay, and put domain, hosting and credentials in your name. Ask us anything on that list.
Where to find credible candidates
- Ask businesses like yours whose sites you admire. The single best source. Find three Mumbai sites in your sector that work well, and ask the owners who built them. Most will tell you, including the bad experiences.
- Independent review platforms where reviews are verified rather than typed in by the agency. Read the three-star reviews, not the five-star ones — that is where the delivery reality shows.
- Google Business Profile reviews, filtered for detail. A review naming the project and the person is worth twenty that say “good service”.
- Search results for the work itself. If you want an agency that understands SEO, look at who ranks organically for terms in your own sector, then find out who built those sites.
- Your industry association or trade body. Sector-specific recommendations carry more weight than general ones because the constraints are already understood.
- LinkedIn, looking at whether the people who would do your work actually exist and post about their craft.
- Local business groups and WhatsApp trade groups, which in Mumbai are frequently more informative than any directory.
Two sources worth discounting: sponsored search results, which tell you only about advertising budget, and any directory that asks you to “get free quotes from 5 agencies”, which sells your enquiry to whoever pays for it.
The fifteen-minute verification pass
- Open their homepage on your phone, on mobile data. Count the seconds. If their own site is slow, yours will be built by people who accept that.
- Run their homepage through PageSpeed Insights on mobile. Thirty seconds, and unforgiving.
- Count the portfolio and open five entries. Confirm the sites are live, load properly, and look plausibly like their work.
- Search their claimed rating. If a site advertises a large rating with a big review count, look for the source. If you cannot find it, it is fabricated — and an agency willing to fabricate its own ratings in page code is willing to do the same on yours, which is a Google policy violation attached to your domain rather than theirs.
- Check the address on Maps. A home office or coworking desk is fine; presenting it as a branch office is not.
- Look at their own titles and meta descriptions. Hover the browser tab, or look at how they appear in search. An SEO agency whose own pages have duplicate or missing titles is telling you something.
- Search their brand name plus “review” or “complaint”. Two minutes, occasionally decisive.
- Check they are still active. Last blog post, last social post, last portfolio addition. A dormant agency will not be there in year two.
The brief to send all three
Send the same six lines to every candidate. Identical inputs make the outputs comparable, and how they respond to a brief is itself information.
- What we do and who buys from us, in three sentences.
- What we want the website to make happen — phone enquiries, form leads, online orders, bookings, or credibility.
- The distinct services or product lines we sell, as a list. This determines the page count and therefore the price.
- What we already have — existing site URL, logo, photographs, written content, or none of it.
- Our budget range and target launch date, stated honestly. Concealing the budget produces quotes you cannot compare.
- What we want back: a written scope naming every page, the integrations, the revision rounds, the exclusions, the timeline, and a fixed price.
Then compare the scopes side by side before you compare the prices. Nine times out of ten the cheapest quote is the one that excluded the most, and it only becomes visible when the page lists sit next to each other.
Where we fit, honestly
We are a Tier 3 small specialist agency. Here is what that means in practice, including the parts that will rule us out for some readers.
| Our position | |
|---|---|
| Location | Based in Satara with a presence in Pune. We serve Mumbai clients remotely and we do not have a Mumbai office. If you want people in a room with you, we are the wrong choice and we will say so on the first call. |
| Prices | Published: ₹18,000 – ₹28,000 starter, ₹30,000 – ₹60,000 business site, ₹75,000 – ₹1,50,000 custom, ₹1,20,000+ eCommerce, ₹12,000 – ₹25,000 landing page, ₹1,500 – ₹6,000 a month maintenance. Ex-GST. The same for everyone. |
| Ownership | Domain and hosting in your name, paid directly to the registrar and host. Admin credentials, a full backup and a recorded walkthrough at handover. We do not resell hosting. |
| Scope | Written before you pay anything, naming every page, integration, revision round and exclusion. |
| What we are not right for | Enterprise builds with procurement committees, brand identity work from scratch, native mobile apps, and anyone who needs on-site presence. We will refer rather than stretch. |
| Where we are strongest | SME and local business sites, industrial and B2B sites with product and specification pages, WordPress and WooCommerce, local SEO and Google Business Profile work, and inheriting neglected sites from previous agencies. |
Frequently asked questions
Which is the best web design company in Mumbai?
There is no single answer, because “best” depends on your budget, sector, and how much project management you can absorb. A ₹5,00,000 agency and a ₹30,000 agency are both correct answers to different questions. Score candidates on price transparency, written scope, ownership terms, verifiable portfolio and reviews, their own site’s technical health, post-launch commitment, communication clarity, process evidence and sector fit — then pick the highest scorer in the tier that matches your budget.
Why should I not trust “top 10 web design companies” lists?
Because most are ordered by payment rather than merit: paid directory placements, affiliate lead-generation, or an agency’s own blog with itself at number one. A list is worth reading only if it discloses its methodology and any commercial relationships. Where neither is stated, assume both exist.
How many agencies should I get quotes from?
Three, all working from the same written brief so the quotes are comparable. Compare the scopes before the prices — the cheapest quote is usually the one that excluded the most, and that only becomes visible when the page lists are side by side.
Does a bigger agency mean a better website?
No. Bigger means more process, more people and a higher price. For most small and mid-sized businesses a small specialist agency delivers better value, because senior people are still doing the work and you are not funding account-management layers you will never use. Large agencies earn their premium on genuinely complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
Do I need an agency with a Mumbai office?
Only if you will genuinely use it. Web design is delivered almost entirely remotely — staging links, screen-share reviews, WhatsApp — and a Mumbai office is a real overhead that lands in your quote. What matters is a written scope, a named contact, a staging link you test on your own phone, and scheduled reviews. If in-person meetings matter to you, hire locally and accept the premium knowingly.
How do I check whether an agency’s advertised rating is real?
Look for the source. Open their Google Business Profile and any independent review platform they mention, and see whether the review count roughly matches the claim. A large rating with a big review count that you cannot find anywhere is fabricated — usually inserted as rating markup in the page code without real reviews on the page, which is a Google structured-data policy violation. An agency doing that to its own domain will do it to yours.
What should I look at first when comparing agencies?
Their own website, on your phone, on mobile data. It is the only sample of their work where they had complete freedom, unlimited time and no client compromises. If it is slow, bloated, or carries invented statistics, that is the ceiling of what you should expect.
How much should I budget for a website in Mumbai?
₹18,000 – ₹28,000 for a 3–5 page starter site, ₹30,000 – ₹60,000 for a 5–10 page business site, ₹75,000 – ₹1,50,000 for a custom build, and ₹1,20,000 upward for an eCommerce store, all ex-GST. Add hosting at ₹3,000 – ₹12,000 a year, a domain at ₹800 – ₹1,200 a year and maintenance at ₹1,500 – ₹6,000 a month.
Are awards and certifications worth anything?
Some are; many are application-fee badges with no independent judging. Google Partner status is verifiable and means something specific about ads certification. A “Best Web Design Agency 2026” badge from a site you have never heard of usually means an entry fee was paid. Check whether the awarding body has any independent existence before crediting it.
Should I choose based on portfolio design quality?
Partly, but be careful — a portfolio shows what an agency was allowed to do for clients with certain budgets and tastes, not what they will do within yours. Weight sector relevance and technical health above aesthetics: open three portfolio sites on your phone and see whether they are fast and easy to act on, because that is what your customers will experience.
What if all three quotes are wildly different?
That almost always means the scopes differ, not the value. Lay the page lists side by side and find what the cheap quote left out — usually content writing, SEO setup, redirects, revision rounds, or post-launch support. Then re-ask each candidate to quote the same scope. Genuine like-for-like quotes in the same tier rarely differ by more than about 40%.
Is it a problem that you have written this page about your own market?
It is a fair question. Our answer is to give you a framework you apply yourself rather than a ranking we invented, to disclose plainly that we are one of the options, to publish our prices so you can score us on the same criteria, and to state openly what we are not suited to. If the framework leads you to someone else, it has still done its job.
Put us on your shortlist — or don’t
Either way, you get a written scope with a named page list and a fixed price, and an honest answer about whether we are the right fit.
